Sony’s acclaimed XDCAM EX camcorders
combine professional-quality HD acquisition with an advanced file-based
workflow. All these benefits are now available in studio applications by
using a studio extension system.
The XDCU-50 Camera Extension Unit, used in combination with a camcorder
specific adaptor, acts as an interface between XDCAM EX camcorders and the
normal range of studio equipment, including Camera Remote, Tally, Intercom,
Switchers and Monitors. It achieves all of this through a simple dual
coaxial connection to the camera, embedding additional data (such as
intercom) in the main signal path.
The XDCU-50 can also down-convert HD to SD signals with built-in
squeeze/letterbox/edge-crop for aspect ratio adjustment. This allows cameras
configured for HD use to be interfaced with SD studio equipment. The Camera
Extension system is designed to work in multi-camera mode when there are
multiple camera adapters and camera extension units.

sync as a Genlock signal

Two embedded RS-232C channels
The XDCU-50 provides two channels of RS-232C data (Transmit and Receive)
embedded in the digital link to the camera, which can be used for any
purpose.
Multi-camera operation
Multiple XDCU-50s can be used together to provide a sophisticated
