Panasonic's new ultra-compact NV-GS50 digital camcorder is the next-generation successor to the PV-DC252. The PV-GS50 is also a three-in-one mini DV cassette camcorder that can capture high-quality digital video, still images and even serve as a Web camera, all in a compact package so small you can take it virtually anywhere.

This model features a 2-1/2" LCD display, 10X optical and 700X digital zoom, a color viewfinder and an SD Memory Card slot for recording digital still pictures and MPEG 4 moving images. This camcorder is also PC-friendly, with both an IEEE 1394 digital interface and a USB port for fast and simple downloading of video and still images to a PC.

Other NV-GS50 features include the Easy-Grip Strap which makes the NV-GS50 even easier to hold and carry by allowing the user to carry the camcorder leisurely by his or her side or in a more secure position when shooting. Quick Start lets the camcorder begin filming in 1.3 seconds after turning the power on. In addition to the usual wireless remote control, the PV-GS50 also offers the unique MagicWire remote control. This handy wired remote makes it easy to capture low-angle shots, high-angle shots, or even fixed-position tripod shots. It controls all key features (Record, Zoom, PhotoShot), and even lets you create live video commentary with a built-in Narration Mic. The NV-GS50 also features Digital Electronic Image Stabilization to compensate for hand and camcorder jitter while recording.

Equipped with the same type of 3 CCD (charge-coupled device) camera system used in Panasonic professional broadcasting equipment, the NV-GS70 is engineered to produce pristine, high resolution video with up to 510 lines of horizontal resolution. A single CCD captures only black-and-white images, which are then passed through red, green and blue filters in order to reproduce color. The Panasonic NV-GS70 utilizes three separate 1/6-inch (460,000-pixel) CCDs to separate the color spectrum into red, green and blue for digital processing by the camera. The delicate hues, tones and gradations are then faithfully reproduced, resulting in a vivid, realistic image.
